Welcome to 'Evan's Ride For A Cure' website!
Evan is our 10 yr. old son who was diagnosed with LCH (Langerhans cell histiocytosis) in March of 2007. Evan has undergone surgery on his skull and chemotherapy to fight the disease.
LCH is a rare blood disease that is caused by an excess of white blood cells called histiocytes. The histiocytes cluster together and can attack the skin, bones, lung, liver, spleen, gums, ears, eyes, and/or the central nervous system. The disease can range from limited involvement that spontaneously regresses to progressive multiorgan involvement that can be chronic and debilitating. In some cases, the disease can be life-threatening. The disease has specifically attacked Evan's bones and he has had lesions on his skull, spine and ribs.
The purpose of this event is to raise funds to be used in research so that a cure can be found for this disease. All proceeds will go directly to the HAA (Histiocytosis Association Of America).
This is our 5th year for the event and we are going to try something a little different. We are planning to have an afternoon ride with dinner afterwards, then followed by multiple bands who will rock us into the evening!
